A crane training professional or a crane operator is a person who operates and supervises the lifting and movement of materials, machines and products in multiple directions, usually in a construction or business site or port area. What You Learn in a Crane Operation Course
A crane training course may teach you how to unload supply vessels or ship cargo, how to drive pilings into the ground (which helps to support buildings and structures), how to dredge waterways like rivers and canals, how to place equipments and materials and move them around.
You may also learn a few maintenance tips and tricks. You will also be required to practice tasks such as raising hooks that are attached to load lines. You also need to learn how to raise and lower and extend and retract the boom.
Certification
Many employers require their candidates/students to possess at least a GED or high school diploma. Before completing your training course, you may have to successfully complete a physical examination. Then you may have to take nationally accredited certification exams conducted by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators or another accredited organization.
The exam has two parts – a written part followed by a practical exam usually at some local site. Each test will be for a specific type of crane operation (such as overhead crane, tower crane, mobile crane or articulating crane), your exam will test your skills in your area of specialization.
Recertification
You will have a window period of one year within which you have to successfully complete your physical exam as well as the written exam in your area of specialization. You will have to take recertification exams every 5 years.
This means successfully passing a written examination with 1,000 hours of crane related job experience. Trade certification is not a requirement, but employers often prefer crane training and accredited certification for professional crane operators. Get crane training now!
